About Us

Ronny G Designs has been in the making since 2017.  My passion to create has existed since childhood.  I abandoned my dreams after constantly hearing from others "you can't survive off of art... you'll be a starving artist".  I studied Sociology in college and took several art classes years after graduation.  Today, I create pieces and I also curate pieces designed by artisans from around the world.  My Sociology background was not a waste after all. My love for art, design, travel, and culture merged into something I could nurture and cherish as my own.

In English class, I remember reading a poem written in 1951 by Langston Hughes called "Harlem [2]":

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore-
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over-
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

In life, there are obstacles, setbacks, disappointments, mistakes, and failures along the way. We must never let our dreams "dry up like a raisin in the sun".

My journey has been out of the ordinary, and things didn't always go my way.  I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to create and celebrate other creatives from around the world.  I'm inspired by the creativity of other artisans, particularly those from Africa and Central America.  I studied and volunteered abroad in Ghana, Benin, Togo, and South Africa.  I've also visited several countries in Central America and the Caribbean.  When I travel, I immediately look for a craft market.  I enjoy meeting artisans, learning about their culture and craft traditions. It's amazing to see how people all over the world use materials you wouldn't think of to make functional and aesthetic works of art.  The best part is that many proceeds from the sale of the pieces in my shop directly support artisans in the area of education, healthcare, community development, and entrepreneurship.

Receiving a handcrafted gift is so special.  My products are colorful, with diverse patterns and textures.  You will find that many of the pieces I design, specifically earrings, are made with niobium hooks.  Niobium is an inert element that is nickel, lead, and cadmium free.  People with metal allergies can safely wear them.  They are tarnish resistant as well.  Some items in my collection can be recreated while others are one-of-a-kind.  This depends on the availability of the materials involved in the production process. Since my products are hand crafted, no two items are exactly the same.

To all of you who support my work, thank you! To those who've planted seeds of encouragement, thank you! To those of you who pushed me to stop procrastinating, thank you!  Thank you to my college classmates at Wesleyan University who gave me the nickname "Ronny" back in the day.  It truly came in hand.  Most importantly, I thank God for giving me creative ideas and this opportunity to share my love of handmade products with you.

I appreciate that you are a part of my dream, and I hope you enjoy my products.  I'm grateful that my dream did not "dry up like a raisin in the sun".

In the midst of everything that is going on today, please remember to inspire one another.

Sincerely,

"Ronny"
